Weddings, Baptisms, Funerals & Registers Weddings The wedding service held in church expresses the wish of a couple for their wedding vows to be made in the sight of God and for the acceptance of God’s rule and guidance in their married life to follow. Around 20 brides each year enjoy their weddings in the surroundings of St Helen’s church. The building itself, together with the extensive grassed area surrounding it, provide excellent opportunities for both photographs and videos inside and outside church. The ringing of the bells provides the classic greeting on the arrival of the bride and later for the couple as they leave church to start their married life together at the end of the service. The floral decorations can be arranged in advance as can particular requirements in terms of the music. In the case of infants these promises are made by parents and Godparents, together with a commitment to bring up the infant as a Christian. Baptisms, both infant and adult, are scheduled as part of the monthly Family Service that takes place on the second Sunday at 10.30 a.m. Baptism preparation is provided and space is reserved in church on the day for families to be seated together. All visitors are welcome to stay on for refreshments at the end of the service as well as enjoying further photo opportunities. Selston churchyard remains open for burials and a special area is consecrated for the interment of cremated remains. Memorials on graves are permitted in accordance with Diocesan regulations - please seek approval first if in doubt.
