Mothers Union
No, you don’t have to be a mother – you don’t even have to be a woman – we have many men as members! So what do you have to be? Well, to find out more about the world-wide and active movement that is the Mother’s Union take a look at our national website. Try also an internet search on ‘Mothers Union’ and you will find websites from all over the world, with links to churches and organisations that you never knew existed! Our branch? We normally meet in St Helen’s church on the third Thursday of each month at 7.00 p.m. Guided by a small committee, we first hold a short act of worship and then settle down for the ‘business’ of the meeting. Usually this takes the form of a guest speaker, sometimes from our own area with expert knowledge of some specific matters concerning the local community; sometimes an official of the Mothers’ Union with knowledge of projects and initiatives bearing fruit in the wider world and with updates on how we are helping and what more we can do, occasionally a speaker from far-a-field who can give us first-hand accounts of people and conditions as they really are. Apart from guest speakers, a varied programme includes meeting with other churches and groups in the community. We certainly don’t just sit around drinking tea and gossiping – although hospitality and the Mothers’ Union are never far apart. Come and meet us – you would be very welcome!
